GRA was delighted to support the efforts of the Beyond Food Foundation and Brigade earlier this month with a complimentary team building day. Attendees of the event are currently in the early stages of completing the United Kitchen Apprenticeship.

The United Kitchen Apprenticeship is a fully certified, 13-month apprenticeship run by the Beyond Food Foundation. The charity works with people who have been at risk of or experienced homelessness to motivate and inspire them to gain meaningful employment.

Their efforts are supported by Brigade, a unique social enterprise restaurant based on Tooley Street, London Bridge. Brigade not only supports the work of Beyond Food Foundation by employing and training the United Kitchen apprentices, but it also invests its profits into other social enterprises and charities.

GRA supported the programme by designing and delivering a team building day for the apprentices at our Corporate Outdoor Learning Centre, near Reading. The objective of the day was to explore the fundamentals of teamwork which will benefit the apprentices both on the programme and in future employment.

The activities ran on the day included a low ropes Mohawk walk, the climbing wall and high ropes as well as the Powerfan. These exercises encouraged delegates to develop team strategies, utilise collaborative efforts and provide one another with physical and emotional support as they undertook challenges which pushed them to extend their comfort zone in a fun and safe environment.

Max Brown, Senior Instructor at GRA’s Outdoor Learning Centre, said: “The key focus of the event was to create a positive environment for success and support the goals of the Beyond Food Foundation and Brigade. The programme incorporated a range of experiential activities focused around team work which helped to achieve this aim.”
